“pantoum of death” Liz Hart wITh an apathetic hand i light another one the smoke from my cigarette cHASing pAst cut grass, bleach hair, butterflies going right into the sun MakEs it hArd for me to loathe aNd act uninterestING the smoke from my cigarette chASing Something That Used to Prove i existeD mAkeS IT hard to be bored without laughing aShEs and butts litEring the eMpty school groundS A little Something that proves i’m in existence Such Is the gaMe PLayed with cigarEttes AShes and butts Yeilding tO “no smoking” institUtions I MAke couGhIng NoisEs, but have no regrets What a pathEtic life addicted to cigarettes Smoke curling pAst sunken eyeLids, Lazy pack-a-days my lungs burn from HAVing to cough so much, still no rEgrets My tirEd hANd lIghts aNother one aGain Liz Hart, a student at Clackamas Community College, has always been a poet.
