Insomnia Linda Appel Sleep does not come to me tonight I lie awake in dark contentment Stars glow faint on the bedroom ceiling As I listen to you breathe. I lie awake in dark contentment I nest into your warmth As I listen to you breathe, Deep inspirations flutter in my ear. While I nest into your warmth My mind floats free and wide Deep inspiration flutters in the air And words begin to play with me. My mind floats free and wide Stars glow fainter on the bedroom ceiling And poems begin to form inside Sleep will not come to me tonight. Linda Knowlton Appel was born in 1939. Raised in Alabama and Massachusetts, she has lived all around the United States. After many years as a science and business librarian, she has retired to concentrate on writing poetry. She has two children, two grandchildren and lives with her husband on the Willamette River in Oregon. You can read more of Linda's classroom poems by following the graphic link below. |
